SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS COURSE OVERVIEW

Introduction:

In recent years, business processes were amended to include Safety Management. Managing safety is now the key to the success of any business. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA's) have mandated the implementation of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in aviation, and has become one of the singular success factors for all AOC's.

The model of SMS presented by Litson and Associates is based on the model promulgated by the ICAO and has four Components consisting of twelve Elements. Each element is presented and discussed in detail to ensure a full understanding for the implementation and maintenance of a SMS. Typically, the ideal candidates on the SMS course are those individuals in the organisation who are appointed in the roles of Aviation Safety Officers and Aviation Safety Managers. The SMS course is formative of nature with the objective of training the delegate as an ASO/M with principles based on SMS outcomes.

Aim:

To set and develop the delegate's knowledge of safety management and the key Elements that constitutes a SMS.

At the end of the training, delegates will be able to implement, monitor and manage a SMS within their aviation organisation.

Pre Entry Requirements:

  • Matric (RSA), ‘O’ Levels or equivalent senior school qualification or recognition of prior learning.
  • Good communication both in written and spoken English.
  • Currently employed in an aviation organisation for at least one year, to ensure a clear grasp onconcepts and terminologies.
